Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist group, have been in conflict for years, this is nothing new.  Hezbollah now has the capability to hit anywhere within Israel’s borders with their missles.  They continue to pose a daily threat of attack to Israel. Even with a U.N. resolution in 2007 limiting their activities, they continue to build their weapons arsenal, especially their missile caches.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Blog,

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has boasted about the broad reach of Hezbollah’s missiles. In a 2007 news interview, he asserted that the group’s missiles ‘could absolutely reach any corner and any point‘in Israel’s territory. In a speech in August 2012, he proclaimed that a future Hezbollah assault would “turn the lives of thousands of Zionists into a living hell.”

Since, the second Lebanon war in 2006, Hezbollah has continued to build it’s arsenal of weapons. During the month long war, Hezbollah fired over 4,000 rockets at Israel’s citizens and abducted two IDF soldiers. The war ended by the issuing of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The resolution was intended to limit Hezbollah and it’s activities against Israel. They ignored the resolution and have continued to build their weapons caches.

The IDF Blog quoted Robert Gates, former U.S. Secretary of Defense, in 2010 as saying that Hezbollah “has more missiles than most governments in the world.” An IDF intelligence report showed that Hezbollah has continued to rapidly build it’s weapon production capabilities. They have built nearly 1000 military facilities in southern Lebanon including 550 weapons bunkers and 300 underground facilities. Hezbollah has the SCUD missile, which has a range of 700 km (434 miles) and several smaller missiles with a range of up to 250 km (155 miles). It’s estimated they have 60,000 missiles all total. The weaponry is almost all Russian made and is provided by Syria and Iran, Hezbollah’s main supporters.

In 2009, Hezbollah had a shipment of arms confiscated by the Israeli Navy. A ship carrying 500 tons of weapons was stopped and intercepted. They determined the weapons were intended for Hezbollah agents. Once in the hands of Hezbollah operatives they are placed in heavily populated civilian neighborhoods. By doing this they create a human shield of their own citizens. It makes it almost impossible for Israel to effectively take them out without collateral damage. The Blog goes on to give an example of the village of al-Khiam where about 90 Hezbollah agents are operating, using hospitals, homes and even schools to protect themselves and their weaponry.

Hezbollah continues to be a serious threat to Israel’s citizens.  Having the capability to strike at any location within Israel’s borders. They use their own citizens as human shields, showing their cowardly tactics in fighting for their Muslim beliefs. Their more advanced weaponry has a capability of causing far more damage now then in 2006 and over a longer period of time.

Israel is determined to keep it’s citizens safe from this terrorist threat. They continue to keep a close eye on Hezbollah’s activities and advancement.  Syria and Iran continue to smuggle weapons into Lebanon for Hezbollah’s attacks.  Those countries continue to gain support from their Russian allies and there is no end in sight for the supply of weapons. Israel needs it’s supporters, as they are constantly under the threat of attack. Hezbollah has shown their colors, they are cowards and do not follow any peace treaty or UN resolutions.  They need to be removed as a threat and Israel returned to a safe region.
